Germany was big favorite before the game against Macedonian handball, and that was proven on the court, where players of this team dominated from the first until the last moment of the game, winning with 25 goals difference (38-13).
This was only routine job for German girls, and the chance for coach staff to give bigger chance for the players from the bench. Macedonia was competitive rival only in first minutes, when result on the scoreboard was 5-4 for the opponent, but after that, with couple of fast breaks, German side gained full control of the game. The negative for host nation would be bigger in the first half, but it didn’t happened because great goalkeeping from Amra Iljaz.
Things were much a like in the second half too, with even bigger domination of Germans, who played fast handball with tough defense. That’s why the result in the end was huge in favor of more experienced and stronger side.
Thirteen german players scored at least one goal, and Isabell Hurst was most efficient with six goals. Leonida Gichevska with five goals was the best scorer in Macedonia side.
Frank Hamann (coach of Germany)
Our job was to get high level and high concentration, so I was not so happy about the first half. But, the second half was OK. Important game for us is next one, against Norway, to get a chance to play for place 9 or 10 that brings place in World championship.
Isabell Hurst (player from Germany)
We played well and we totally deserved the win. I’m especially satisfied how we played in the second half. All the girls put their best effort.
