The last action for Portugal and Slovakia at W17 EHF EURO was match for the 13th place. That was the second clash between those two teams as they already meet in the Intermediate round. That match ended up with a 27:24 win for Slovakia.
There were a lot of mistakes and unrealized shots on both sides at the beginning of the match, so after seven minutes result was 1:0 for Portugal.
After 10 minutes Slovakia was still without goal and Mariana Nemickova asked for timeout. Finally, after 14 minutes, Slovakia scored for the first time (1:3).
After that, match became more intense. Portugal was in control and had five goals advantage (8:3). Ana Maria Ursu was great on the Portuguese goal and kept her net save from Slovakia offensive players for 20 minutes. For all that period Slovakians scored three more goals but all of them were from penalty.
After 25 minutes Portugal was still in charge. They got comfortable 11:5, and kept the distance without too many problems until the end of the first half (13:8).
Slovakian players were more motivated in the second half and threatened to turn result around as they came to only one goal difference (16:17) after ten minutes.
Timeout from Ana Seabra didn’t help. After 13 minutes, Slovakia equalized (17:17), and two minutes later was one goal ahead, for the first time on this match (20:19).
The winner was decided in the last three minutes. And it was decided by Nadia Concalves. She scored three goals in a row that lead Portugal to 27:24 victory.
