Sweden is the first team from group “A” that secured a place in the Main round of the W17 EHE EURO. After yesterday’s big win over Macedonia, the Scandinavians added two more points today, from the match with the Czech Republic.
Тhe well-known game plan was made by strong defense, good goalkeeping and counter-attacks, and it worked very well for the Swedish team so after only ten minutes they got comfortable 8:4 lead and they easily kept the distance in next ten minutes using the same ingredients. The Czechs went all-in, but their flexible and deep defense zone left a lot of space behind for the line player Hedda Wollmark and after 20 minutes she was team top scorer with four goals. The Czech team was saved more than once by excellent goalkeeper Lucie Preslova, but head coach Jan Salac was forced to ask for time-out when the Swedish advantage went up to six goals (19:13) five minutes before the break. After 30 minutes, the result was 21:16.
After eight minutes into the second half Jan Salac once again asked timeout because advantage for the Swedish team went up to seven goals (26:19). But there wasn’t much that he can do or say to make things better for the team.
Last ten minutes were routine, and match finally ended up with 35:29 victory for Sweden
Jan Salac, head coach of Czech Republic
“We didn’t play as we wanted to. Our game plan was different. We are in the intermediate group now and must prepare for the game against Macedonia and very strong teams from group “B”. Our goal is to reach place at the World Championship next year“.
Erik Larholm, head coach of Sweden
“I am satisfied with this victory. I am satisfied with our performance in attack but I am not happy with my team attitude in defense. We must improve that. We are in Main round but first we have to beat Slovenia and than we’ll think about Main round“
